The goal of the 'Volvo 240-260 Register' is to preserve Volvo cars of the series 240, 242, 244, 245, 260, 262, 262 Coupé, 264 and 265, promoting the interest of the public for these cars and to enlarge the pleasure of driving them.

We intend to achieve these goals by supporting the members of the 'Volvo 240-260 Register' with the restoration and maintenance of their Volvo 240/260 series cars. Members receive the magazine 'Volvologisch' which is released 4 times a year, via this magazine thoughts and experiences can be exchanged. Non-commercial advertising's of members are also published in this magazine. In order to strengthen the bond between members, club meetings are organised at regular intervals. These meetings can be for example repair and maintenance sessions, tours or other social events, while care has been taken that these events are enjoyable for the whole family. Finally the 'Volvo 240-260 Register' is trying to safeguard the spare parts supply for now and the future.

The Volvo 240/260 series are cars to be preserved and, of course, to be driven. During their 20 years lifetime (1974-1993) they were often awarded in the categories 'Car of the year', 'Family car of the year', 'Safest car of the year' and they got their fair share in racing contests. The original 240/260 design was based on the VESC (Volvo Experimental Safety Car). Besides measures to ensure the safety of the passengers, the front of the car was specially designed to limit injuries of victims colliding with the car. The Volvo 240/260 also stood model for the US Government safety requirements for cars. In 1975 this type of car was the first on the US market featuring a catalyst and Lambda sensor. And the Volvo 240/260 series contributed to the average lifetime and reliability of Volvo cars in general. Therefore it is, and will be, for certain a classic. A total number of 2,685,171 of the 240-series and 177,429 of the 260-series were manufactured. In May 1993 the last Volvo 240, a 240 estate left the factory. In The Netherlands a total of 20,580 240s and 334 260s have been sold through the years.

On September 6th 1997 the 'Volvo 240-260 Register' was erected during the annual 'Volvo Onderdelen Beurs' in Rosmalen, The Netherlands. On November 18th 1997 the first steering committee meeting took place and on April 18th 1998 the first general membership meeting was held. During this meeting the statutes were unanimous accepted and the yearly members contribution was determined. Also the steering committee was officially installed. Since that day the 'Volvo 240-260 Register' has grown with an average of about 10 new members per month. As owner of a Volvo of the 240 or 260 series you are kindly invited to become member of the 'Volvo 240-260 Register'. After payment of an one time entry-ship fee and the yearly members contribution you will be registered as member. The membership card will provide you access to various club meetings and events, while you can address technical questions or other questions regarding your Volvo 240/260 to the 'Volvo 240-260 Register'. And of course you will receive 4 times a year the magazine 'Volvologisch'.
